Jeff Bates

Director of Student Conduct

Deputy Title IX Coordinator

Jeff Bates serves as the Director of Student Conduct & Deputy Title IX Coordinator. In this role, he provides strategic leadership and management for the University-wide student conduct process and coordinates the institution’s response to reports of sexual misconduct with students. Jeff received a bachelor's degree in education from Lebanon Valley College, a master’s degree in college student development from Appalachian State University, and an MBA from Florida State University. He has previously held positions in student conduct and residence life at Florida State University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Tulane University, University of South Carolina, and Appalachian State University. He is an active member of the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and has co-authored a chapter on ethics and decision making in Student Conduct Practice (2020). In his daily work, Jeff is committed to encouraging moral development in order to foster an environment that makes learning possible and holistically supports the success of all students.

Alek Ball

Coordinator of Student Conduct

Alek Ball serves as a Coordinator of Student Conduct. Alek earned his B.A. in Justice and Peace Studies with a minor in Classics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Alek completed a M.A. in Peace and Justice Studies at the University of San Diego and a M.S.Ed. in Counseling with a focus on College Counseling and Student Affairs at Youngstown State University (YSU). While at YSU, Alek served as an instructor for a section of Student Success Seminar and as an intern in the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct. In these roles, he refined his approach to building rapport with students and discovered how the conduct process can be used to facilitate student growth. Alek is interested in the first-year student experience, methodologies for promoting personal, academic, and career growth in the classroom, and how the conduct process can be used as a tool for conflict resolution.

Michael Bourgeois

Coordinator of Student Conduct

Michael Bourgeois serves as a Coordinator for Student Conduct. Michael received a B.A. in English and History at Mississippi State University as well as earning an M.S. in Educational Leadership in Student Affairs and Higher Education also from MSU. Michael has been engaged in the Student Conduct process since his second year of undergrad, where he served on the Mississippi State Student Conduct Board for 5 years. In graduate school, he served as a Graduate Assistant for the Student Leadership and Community Engagement Office as well as completed two semester-long internships in Fraternity and Sorority Life and the Dean of Students Office. He is highly interested in OSU's commitment to educational sanctioning and student development and looks forward to implementing this strategy in his approach to being a student conduct officer.

Joshua Engle

Coordinator of Student Conduct

Joshua Engle serves as a Coordinator for Student Conduct. Joshua holds a Master of Science degree in Human Development & Family Science - Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, both from Oklahoma State University. He brings a wealth of experience from his previous leadership roles, including Vice Chancellor of Student Success & Title IX Coordinator at Montana State University - Northern, as well as serving as Dean of Student Success & Title IX Coordinator at Dawson Community College, University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. His background also includes significant experience in student support, conduct investigation, and academic advising. Joshua is deeply committed to fostering a supportive campus environment that prioritizes student well-being, engagement, and retention. His work consistently focuses on developing proactive strategies and policies that empower students and contribute to their holistic success.

Coordinator of 1 is 2 Many

Claire Leffingwell serves as the Coordinator for 1 is 2 Many. In this role, Claire manages all University sexual violence prevention and education efforts and provides support and resources to individuals impacted by sexual violence. Claire is a Stillwater native - she completed her bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Leadership Studies at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, and moved back home to complete her M.S. in Educational Leadership Studies: College Student Development at Oklahoma State University in 2022. Claire served as a graduate intern for 1 is 2 Many, where she fell in love with the programs and is honored to continue to serve OSU in this way. Claire is highly interested in interpersonal skill development, gender-based violence prevention, and mental health awareness/destigmatization. She uses her time and talents to work with students and colleagues to help them achieve their fullest potential. Learn more about 1 is 2 Many on their website.
