F1RST Showcase
We would love to have you participate in OSU's F1RST Showcase! As proud supporters of our first-generation students, we believe it's essential to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions that these students bring to our campus and community. We want to hear your story!
What is the F1RST Showcase?
F1RST (First) Showcase is a "show-and-tell" event for first-generation students, faculty, and staff participants to submit their own exhibit and share their work with the campus community. This could be almost anything you can imagine! Participants will bring their submission (suggestions below) to the event and "show-and-tell" about it to attendees. The Starlight Terrace (Student Union 465) will be set with display tables for participants to set up their exhibit while attendees move through the space and hear from you.
Suggested Submissions:
Below are some suggestions of how you could prepare a submission for the Showcase.
- Art Piece
Create or bring a complete piece for the event. Whatever medium you choose, you could exhibit your piece and share about its inspiration. Consider a painting, digital illustration, sculpture, photography, or film.
- Research Presentation
Consider preparing a poster presentation or Three-Minute Thesis summarizing research you have conducted or assisted with.
- Written work
Bring poetry, a course submission, or a longer reflective essay.
- Video or photo
Maybe you have photos or video of something that you would like to submit! Think about something like one of your performances, an event you facilitated, you at work, or your latest intramural game.
Enter to win a Scholarship Prize!
All participants will submit their Exhibit Piece and a brief reflective essay. This reflection should focus on your piece and how your first-generation status connects to your work. Consider discussing how this project has helped you to develop the Ideal Graduate competencies.
A panel of judges will review submissions and reflective essays prior to the event - selected eligible* participants will be awarded a Scholarship and Certificate at the event's conclusion.
*Participants must be enrolled in an OSU program to receive the scholarship.
