The Camp Experience

 


Tentative Camp Schedule

While each camp varies slightly based upon the environmental conditions and the needs of campers, the outline below provides an idea of what you'll experience during Camp Cowboy.

  • Day 1 Activities, 6:30 p.m.-11 p.m.
    • Camp Check-in
    • Rallying Your Posse, a time to meet your small group members and leaders and get acquainted through small group games.
    • Camp Welcome and Staff Introductions
    • Cowboy Campus Adventurean in-depth, interactive and competitive scavenger hunt, highlighting important campus locations connected to OSU traditions and history or that are must-know locations for new OSU students.
    • Cowboy Roundup, large group games designed to help you meet members of other small groups attending your camp.
    • Small Group Session
    • Sunset Rec, a time to relax with your new friends and enjoy board games, lawn games, a movie, dancing and more! Smores and popsicles included!
  • Day 2 Activities, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
    • Breakfast
    • Wrangle Your Life, a game of choices and challenges designed to get you thinking about adulting experiences you may encounter for the first time in college.
    • Cowboy Cup Competition, a fun experience of fast-paced outdoor games to see how your small group can work together, keep cool and capture the "cup." Water activities involved.
    • The Orange Life, an interactive experience to explore different involvement and connection opportunities throughout campus.
    • Lunch and Small Group Session
    • Boone Pickens Legacy Experience, an opportunity to visit the tribute museum and be inspired by the "Ultimate Cowboy," innovative entrepreneur and philanthropist, T. Boone Pickens, who epitomized the land grant mission through his exceptional career leadership and life of service. 
    • Fences and Partners, a peer-led session focused on assessing your boundaries and recognizing the characteristics of healthy relationships as you build new ones at OSU.
    • Saddle Up for Service, a group service project to connect with the broader community and live out the Cowboy commitment to service.
    • Small Group Session
    • Dinner
    • History and Traditions Campfire, a time to circle up and reflect on the pieces of OSU history and traditions learned so far at camp and share the excitement of the traditions to come and memories to be made.
    • Memory Projects and Small Group Session, a chance for campers to participate in Camp Cowboy traditions, including branding their special camp keepsake plaque.
    • Sunset Rec or Free Time, a time to relax with your new friends and enjoy board games, lawn games, a movie, dancing and more!
  • Day 3 Activities, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    • Breakfast
    • Experience Stillwater, a high-energy round of activities and games to help you get familiar with student favorites from the Stillwater community.
    • OSWhoRU, a chance to start mapping your journey toward becoming an OSU Ideal Graduate with goals and action steps. 
    • Large Group and Small Group Pictures
    • Final Small Group Session
    • Spirit and Traditions Pep Rally, where you'll learn the  OSU fight songs, chants and alma mater, meet Pistol Pete and hear his story, and build your excitement for your Cowboy adventure ahead! "I Scream" sundaes included to help you get excited!
    • Happy Trails, the closing of your Camp Cowboy experience, including camp awards, a camp highlight video and an orange-spirited charge from an OSU VIP.
  • Optional Outdoor Adventure Add-on Experience

    Students attending Camp Cowboy have the option to add the Outdoor Adventure  Experience to the beginning of their camp. The Outdoor Adventure Experience includes:

    • Opportunity to complete OSU's High Ropes Challenge Course
    • Chance to participate in zip-lining

    The Outdoor Adventure Experience begins at 3 p.m. and wraps up at 5 p.m. on Thursdays, before Camp Cowboy check-in begins at 6:30 p.m. The experience is only available as an add-on for select Camp Cowboy sessions, and you will have the chance to add the Outdoor Adventure Experience when registering for Camp Cowboy.

     

    Each Outdoor Adventure Experience is limited to 40 students and requires an additional activity fee of $25. 

  • Virtual Camp for 100% Online Students, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
    • Large Group Games
    • Camp Leadership and Staff Introductions
    • The Orange Life, an interactive game to experience different involvement and connection opportunities.
    • Saddle Up for Service, a group service project to connect with the broader community and live out the Cowboy commitment to service.
    • Spirit and Traditions Roundup, a chance to learn the fight songs, chants and alma mater, meet Pistol Pete and hear his story, and build your excitement for your Cowboy adventure ahead! 
  • Camp Cowboy Transfer Student Session, 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
    • Camp Check-in
    • Camp Leadership and Staff Introductions
    • Cowboy Roundup, large group games designed to help you meet members of other small groups attending your camp.
    • Cowboy Campus Adventure, an in-depth, interactive and competitive scavenger hunt highlighting locations of important  history and traditions as well as other must-know locations for new OSU students.
    • Lunch
    • The Orange Life, an interactive game to discover campus and community involvement and connection opportunities that match your interests.
    • Saddle Up for Service, a group service project to connect with the broader community and live out the Cowboy commitment to service.
    • Experience Stillwater, a high-energy round of activities and games to help you get familiar with student favorites from the Stillwater community.
    • Boone Pickens Legacy Experience, an opportunity to visit the tribute museumand be inspired by the "Ultimate Cowboy," innovative entrepreneur and philanthropist, T. Boone Pickens, who epitomized the land grant mission through his exceptional career leadership and life of service.

    • Happy Trailsthe closing of your Camp Cowboy experience, including camp awards, a camp highlight video and an orange-spirited charge from an OSU VIP.

  • Day 2 - Lunch
    • Cowboy cookout: Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs
    • Potato salad
    • Baked beans
    • Assorted chips
    • Brownie bites
    • Water and lemonade
    • Special meals available, based upon dietary restrictions during registration
  • Day 2 - Dinner
    • Border street tacos with chicken tinga and corn and flour tortillas
    • House salad with ranch or Italian dressing
    • Spanish rice
    • Black beans
    • Charred zucchini with corn and peppers
    • Cheese, sour cream and pico de gallo
    • Cinnamon rolled sopapilla
    • Water and lemonade
    • Special meals available, based upon dietary restrictions during registration
  •  Day 3 - Breakfast
    • Breakfast burritos: Bacon or sausage wrapped in flour tortilla with shredded pepper jack, peppers, onions and scrambled eggs
    • Flavored oatmeal cups

  • Day 3 - Pep Rally Menu
    • Vanilla ice cream

What To Bring

  • Recommended Clothing
    • Lightweight, appropriate clothing
    • Comfortable shoes for walking and running. Note: If adding on the Outdoor Adventure Experience before Camp Cowboy, you must have closed-toed shoes.
    • Bathing suit to wear under clothing for Day 2 (water activities included in the Cowboy Cup games)
    • Extra pair of shorts, pants or skirt for afternoon of Day 2.
  • Other Camp Essentials to Bring
    • Refillable water bottle
    • Towel for water games
    • Sunscreen
    • Deodorant and toiletries
    • Insect repellent
    • Necessary medications
    • Applicable chargers

     

  • Optional Items for Extra Comfort
    • Extra towel, blanket and or pillow. These will be provided by the residence hall, but many campers prefer to bring extra.
    • A hat
    • Extra undergarments and socks
    • Special snacks preferred
    • Shower shoes
    • Waterproof or water-resistant jacket (depending upon weather)
    • Cooling towel
    • Handheld and/or portable fan

     

  • Provided by Camp Cowboy
    • Camp Cowboy t-shirt to wear on Day 3
    • Small drawstring backpack
    • Water bottle stickers or labels for personal water bottles
    • Meals and assorted snacks throughout camp
    • 1 pillow, blanket and towel provided by Housing and Residential Life in overnight camp lodging.

 

Travel Information

  • Camp Check-In

    Check-in for Camp Cowboy varies depending on your specific camp program. 

    • Most camps check-in between 6:30-7:30 p.m. at University Commons Residence Halls.
    • The last July camp and all August in-person camps will check-in at the lower Student Union Plaza, on the northwest corner of the building. The July 20 camp and Aug. 10 camp will check-in from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the Aug. 22 transfer camp will check-in from 9-10 a.m.
    • August virtual camp check-in will be via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24.

     

    More detailed instructions about parking, specific check-in locations and the camp experience will be accessible through your personal event portal and will be emailed to your OSU email address approximately two-weeks prior to your Camp Cowboy session date. Check your email for your specific camp details.

  • Flight Information

    If you are flying to the Camp Cowboy program, we suggest you fly into the Stillwater Regional Airport. Transportation to and from campus for air travelers may be provided by Camp Cowboy staff, if using the Stillwater Regional Airport.

    • Please complete the Airport Transportation Request in the Camp Cowboy event portal to provide your flight details and transportation needs.
  • Additional Lodging

    If you are arriving in Stillwater the night before camp or staying the night after camp and need overnight lodging, please contact Camp Cowboy by email atcampcowboy@okstate.eduAdditional lodging is available pre- or post-camp for an additional charge.
